Jamestown, N.D - Dickinson State fell to #20 Jamestown, 75-60, in their North Star Athletic Association opener on Friday night at Harold Newman Arena.
Dickinson State, 3-7 overall and 0-1 in conference play, struggled to keep pace with the nationally ranked Jimmies, who improved to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in NSAA games. From the outset, the Blue Hawks faced a tough battle, with Jamestown pulling ahead in the second quarter and maintaining the lead throughout the game.
The Blue Hawks managed a competitive first quarter, trailing by just one point at 12-11. However, the Jimmies capitalized on turnovers, scoring 24 points off 20 Dickinson State turnovers, and dominated in second-chance points, finishing with 23 compared to Dickinson's mere 2.
Kayden Steele led the Blue Hawks with 14 points, while Katherine Fox and Samantha Oase each contributed 8 points. Anhelica Shanrock added 12 points.
Kate Cordes was the standout for Jamestown, scoring 18 points and securing 12 rebounds. Megan Oswald also had a significant impact, contributing 9 points and 9 rebounds.
The third quarter saw Jamestown widen the gap, outscoring Dickinson State 21-17. Despite a slight rally in the fourth, where the Blue Hawks managed to score 16 points, the Jimmies continued their effective play, securing the win with 23 points in the final period.
