LSUS Upsets No. 13 Dillard, 5-2, in Road Victory

NEW ORLEANS – The LSUS women's tennis team continued its strong start to the season, securing a 5-2 road victory over No. 13 Dillard on Saturday. The Pilots (4-1) took the doubles point before winning four of six singles matches to earn the upset.
Doubles
LSUS struck first by claiming the doubles point. Pierina Lescher and Daniela Maldonado battled past Valentina Gomez and Brunella Gomez in a tiebreaker, 7-6, while Angela Basto and Maike Tiemersma defeated Anja Hribljan and Truc Tran, 6-3. Dillard earned a win on court three, with L. Chen and Hang Nguyen topping Lidia Gomez and Sara Sanchez, 6-3.
Singles
Lescher carried her momentum into singles play, grinding out a three-set victory over Tran, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. Basto followed with a hard-fought win over Hribljan, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Sanchez delivered a dominant performance, cruising past Valentina Gomez, 6-3, 6-1, while Maldonado clinched the match after forcing a retirement from Brunella Gomez at 4-6, 6-3, 5-2.
Dillard secured its two points with Nguyen defeating Tiemersma, 6-4, 6-2, and L. Chen beating Lidia Gomez, 6-3, 6-2.

LSUS returns to action at the Steve Foster Memorial Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas, from March 6-8. The Pilots will open the tournament against Bethel University (Kansas) on March 6, with first serve set for 12 p.m.
