Morningside sweeps Briar Cliff for second time this season

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Morningside University volleyball team completed the season sweep of Briar Cliff on Wednesday at Allee Gym, by set scores of 25-19, 25-13, and 25-15.

Morningside's longest scoring run in the first set was three, where it hit .089. In that rally, Sydney Marlow recorded a kill, while BCU committed two hitting errors. Marlow also closed the set with a kill.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 6-1 lead in Set 2, where Claire Wilson had two kills, while Nienke van Drunen and Payten Lode also scored a kill. Their largest lead ended up being the 12 that they won by, and Emma Haren clinched that with a kill assisted by Gillian DePauw.

In the third set, RV Morningside led as many as 11 when it led 20-9. Aureana Bernales – who was recognized before the match for reaching 1,000 career digs – ended the match on a service ace. She also had 16 digs, which paced the Mustangs. Overall, Morningside hit .240. 

Wilson led the Mustangs with 13 kills, followed by nine from van Drunen. Marlow ended up with eight kills.

Aleksandra Dalach had a match-high 37 assists, three aces, and also had 12 digs.

The Mustangs had nine total blocks, and van Drunen had the most with three. Marlow had two total blocks.

Lode, Bernales, Marlow and Barbora Kozouskova had an ace, too.
