Eagles Struggle in Loss to Pioneers
PARAGOULD, Ark. (2/6/25) – The Williams Baptist University men's basketball team fell 83-64 to Crowley's Ridge in an American Midwest Conference matchup inside the Carter Activities Center on Thursday night.
DJ Townsend led the Eagles with 18 points on 6-for-12 shooting. Elisha Cofield followed up with 11 points off the bench. EJ Johnson led the squad on the glass with seven rebounds on the night.
Williams shot 34.4 percent from the field as a team. Crowley's Ridge shot at a 46.7 percent clip in the contest. The Pioneers won the rebound battle 43-32. CRC scored 22 of its points on fast breaks.
CRC jumped out to a 19-13 lead early in the first half. A three from Cooper Rabjohn and an Amarion Wilson brought the Eagles within one with just under 10 to go in the first half.
The teams traded buckets until a 7-0 Pioneer run pushed the CRC advantage to 32-23. A layup from Antonio Trotter cut the deficit to seven just before the halftime buzzer as WBU went into the locker room down 36-29.
Williams continued to struggle as Crowley's Ridge added to its advantage in the second half. An 11-0 run in the first 10 minutes of the second half put CRC out to a 52-33 lead. WBU failed to mount a comeback as the Eagles fell on the road.
The loss drops the Eagles to 4-15 overall and 1-12 in AMC play.
Next, WBU will travel to St. Louis, Mo. on Saturday, Feb. 8 to take on the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy. Tip-off against the Eutectics is set for 7:30 p.m. inside the UHSP Gymnasium.
