One goal was all that separated the UHV women's soccer team and Xavier (La.) on Thursday.
The Jaguars fell 1-0 to the Gold Nuggets in a hard-fought Red River Athletic Conference contest at The Cage.
Samira Roper's goal in the 41st minute proved to be the difference despite a few great looks at goal by UHV (9-4-0, 6-4-0).
Estelle Flanagan, Arantza Alva and Kyleigh Spree-Kolos forced Theresa Wielosek into three saves for Xavier (10-3-1, 9-0-1) which halted UHV's comeback bid.
Spree-Kolos had the best look with a left-footed shot in the 86th minute that looked destined to level the game, but was met with a strong diving attempt by Wielosek to keep the Gold Nuggets in front.
Flanagan, making her 11th start of the season, set new all-time records for career Games Played (72) and Games Started (65), surpassing Nisa Olivierre (2017-21) and Darby Price (2012-15) for those respective categories.
Sophomore goalkeeper Franciezca Blancaflor made four saves, improving her season total to 31 and setting a new career-high in a season for her.
UHV will look to bounce back on Saturday against North American for Senior Day. At halftime, the Jaguars will honor Flanagan, Spree-Kolos, Hayli Nichols, Nickole Stroman, Ana Maria Munoz, Arianna Rios, Kaitlyn Kongdara, Noa Txintxurreta and Chloe Spencer.
