SMC Goes 1-1 in Pool Play at 2024 CAC Volleyball Tournament

Tampa, Fla. – The Spartanburg Methodist College volleyball team, who entered as the No. 3 seed, posted a 1-1 mark in pool play as part of the 2024 Continental Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament on Friday.
SMC started the day, winning in straight sets over No. 6 seed Fisher, 25-22, 25-13, 25-22. Makinnley Smart led the attack with 12 kills and a .385 hitting percentage. Three-different Pioneers recorded double-digit digs with Brantlie Price recording 19, Hana Vucinic adding 15 and Aurora Aho had 12. Kendall Meinders had three kills, a block solo and two block assists.
The Pioneers ended the day with a four-set loss to No. 2 seed Florida National, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 30-28. In the loss, Brantlie Price hammered down 17 kills to go along with 21 digs in the defeat. Teammate Aurora Aho also had a double double with 11 kills and 25 digs. The third Pioneer with double-digit kills was Makinnley Smart, who had 12.
Setters Brook Noe and Rylee Anderson had 27 and 16 assists in the contest, plus libero Hana Vucinic shared team-high honors with 25 digs to go along with three service aces.
The one-two punch of Kitula Amaya Morales and Layla Cortez from Florida National was just enough in the win. Morales had 18 kills to go along with 14 digs, Cortez added 13 kills in the win for the Conquistadors. Setters Ivette Sandoval and Emily Robello had 21 and 17 assists, respectively.
