HOWELL, Mich - In a game riddled with fouls, the Yellow Jackets dropped their seventh match of the season with a 6-0 final score against the Cleary Cougars at Lake Trust Stadium in Howell, Mich. on Saturday afternoon.
After an hour-and-a-half delay due to referee miscommunication, the day got off to a late start. Cleary's Cristina de Miguel got the scoring started in the ninth minute with a shot to the top right corner. Seventeen minutes later, Cougar Tamara Trumic hit the opposite corner of the goal off a corner kick to put her team up 2-0. A goal by Miya Adams in the 38th minute closed out the first period's scoring. Trumic got the second half started just 10 minutes in with her second of the game, shortly followed by a second goal for Miguel. In the final minute, Cleary's Roza Bonner finished the contest's scoring with a tough shot to the top right corner of the frame.
In the final minutes of the match, three Defiance players each took shots to try to get on the board, but each attempt was unsuccessful.
The Turning Point
The seventh minute of the match notched the Cougar's first of 16 fouls, each giving possession back to the Yellow Jackets. However, DC was unable to capitalize despite the added opportunities.
