PAPILLION, Neb. – College of Saint Mary Soccer Coach Jamison Parkhill continues to be pleased with the way his squad is playing.
"We might not be getting the results we want in the box score, but we are playing how we want to play and playing great soccer," Parkhill said.
The Flames lost a nonconference battle with Bellevue University 2-1 Wednesday night at Papillion Landing.
The Bruins scored first at 26:25 when Adi Kasel found the back of the net off an assist from teammate Maju Serrano. Bellevue went into the intermission with the 1-0 lead.
It wasn't until 71:30 that the Flames got on the scoreboard. Marissa Ring scored the goal assisted by Abbie Anderson.
"It was a great hustle play," Parkhill said. "Lesli Donis started it and kept with the play. She eventually won it and found Abbie who played a ball into the box. The ball came off the keeper's hands and Marissa was there to finish it."
The tie game lasted 10 minutes before the Bruins scored the game-winner at 81:39 when Ketlyn Rota scored. Ashlynn Coreas earned the assist.
"We were in the game but just got unlucky on a set piece," Parkhill said. "We battled all 90 minutes. I'm very happy with where we have come in the 10 days since our first match. It will come together. We are improving each and every day."
The Bruins outshot CSM 13-4 in the contest. CSM goalkeeper Alivia Schade, who earned GPAC Defender of the Week honors on Tuesday, tallied four saves. Bellevue keeper Alessia Ricciardi had one save in the win.
The Flames are now 0-2-2 on the season and are off until Sept. 7 when they play at Graceland University.
*CSM's junior varsity contest scheduled for Thursday with Northwestern has been canceled.
