Graceland’s Strong Effort Not Enough in Straight Sets Loss to Grand View

Lamoni, Iowa – Graceland University's women's volleyball team dropped a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) match to Grand View University in straight sets on Tuesday night at the Morden Center. The Yellowjackets fell by scores of 25-21, 25-18, and 25-16, bringing their season record to 1-13 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

Despite showing moments of solid execution, Graceland struggled to find consistency against a strong Grand View team, which improved to 4-9 on the season. The match saw the Yellowjackets deliver 24 kills, but they were offset by 18 attack errors, resulting in a team hitting percentage of just .056. Grace Jensen led Graceland's offensive effort with seven kills on 22 total attempts, while Brenna Crabtree contributed five kills.

The match opened with a competitive first set, with Graceland remaining within striking distance throughout. Key contributions came from Kaylee Baker and Kylee Dixon, who each added three kills, while Shelby Jabour provided stability as the libero with 13 digs. However, Grand View's Elly Polich and Ellie Dougherty proved too much, combining for 24 kills and pacing the Vikings' attack with a .229 team hitting percentage.

Graceland's defense worked hard to contain Grand View, registering five total blocks, including two block assists from Baker and Dixon. Setter Hailey Kauweloa dished out 9 assists, while Kariana Hernandez Cruz contributed nine more in a balanced playmaking effort. Despite these efforts, Graceland could not capitalize on crucial points during key rallies.

"We played some of our best ball tonight. We were exciting and fun to watch. Honestly, we are right there," said Head Coach Stew McDole. "But we have to clean up some of our mistakes and be more consistent in finishing our opportunities."

The Yellowjackets will look to bounce back in their next match, scheduled for September 27 at the Morden Center in Lamoni. Graceland will host Clarke University at 7 p.m. as they seek their first conference victory.
