V-Hawks Deadlocked With Bee’s

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University baseball split in day one of the home series with St. Ambrose, Thursday afternoon. The V-Hawks sit at 14-11  (CCAC 9-5), while the Fighting Bee's also sit at 12-15 (CCAC 9-7).

The VHawks with a strong third inning would take advantage with three runs. The Bee's in an attempt to make a comeback in the fifth would fall short with a single homer allowed.

Brandon Jaenke would pitch the full seven innings on the mound with nine strikeouts, allowing only a single run over four hits while facing 27 batters.

On the offensive, the V-Hawks didn't steal a single base, Gavin Daniel caught in the act, though grabbing an RBI along side Xavier Gilmore and Spencer Hans. In the field Brett Stuessel would turn two double plays with the help of Cody Wells, and Luisangel Reyes.

Viterbo 7, St. Ambrose 12

The Fighting Bee's would take an early lead over the V-Hawks with runs in the first fourth and sixth innings. In the bottom of the sixth the V-Hawks would get on the board with three runs before grabbing a two run in the eighth.

Starting on the mound and shouldering the loss Jake Ouweneel would strikeout a single batter in three innings pitched allowing six runs in eight hits. Adam Olson coming in relief for two innings would face 13 batters letting up four runs before Nick Colker would enter, grabbing a single strikeout letting up only one run, before Bryant Koenig and Dominic LeBlanc would finish off the game with an inning each. LeBlanc striking out a batter and allowing two hit and a run.

Stuessel's double would send Daniel and Derick Cossio home for two RBI's, Xavier Gilmore also hitting for the fences with a triple. Daniel stealing a base before Armani Camus would as well. Two V-Hawks with sacrifice hits, Cody Lozano on a sac bunt and Wells with a sac fly in the bottom of the ninth.

The V-Hawks return to action Friday, March 28 for the second two games of their series with St. Ambrose.
