Warriors fall in season opener at Concordia

SEWARD, Neb. - A new era of Waldorf football started Saturday night as they played their first game as members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). In their first GPAC game, Waldorf traveled to Seward, Nebraska to take on the Concordia Bulldogs. Concordia dominated from the start and topped the Warriors, 45-7.
Concordia scored all of their 45 points in the first half. Bulldogs' quarterback DJ McGarvie found John Goodwin for a pair of first-quarter touchdown connections. Concordia scored 31 points in the second quarter. McGarvie threw for a touchdown and ran for another in the frame. He would throw for 220 yards and three touchdowns in the game.
Waldorf got on the board late in the fourth quarter. To culminate a 10-play, 87-yard drive, Warriors' quarterback Louis Williams found Kadin Abele in the back left corner of the end zone for a 17-yard score. Abele led Waldorf in receiving with five grabs for 52 yards. Williams was the leading passer and rusher for Waldorf. He threw for 69 yards and rushed for 105 yards on 16 carries. Defensively, Luke Beyer led with 14 tackles. Kasan Handal added 11.
Waldorf (0-1, 0-1 in GPAC) returns to Forest City for their home opener next Saturday against St. Francis (Ill.)
