Waldorf Baseball Lights Up the Scoreboard Against Mount Marty

YANKTON, S.D. – Originally scheduled to play in Forest City on Sunday, Waldorf Baseball hit the road for a conference match up against the Mount Marty Lancers in Yankton, South Dakota on Friday for a doubleheader. Waldorf was the home team.
In Game 1, Mount Marty would take the early lead at the top of the first, scoring four runs. Waldorf would score their first run at the bottom of the second by Atticus Smith. Waldorf would add two more runs by Tyler Wytulka and Rylee Rauch in third, making it a 4-3 Mount Marty lead. Mount Marty would find their rhythm after being scoreless since the first inning, adding four more runs to their lead in the fourth inning. Waldorf would respond with four runs of their own by Rauch, Mason Smith, Drake Fetters, and Lucas Romero. Mount Marty would score two runs in the top of the fifth, and Waldorf would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth with four runs by Ryan Webster, A. Smith, M. Smith, and Battye. Mount Marty would seal the deal in the sixth and seventh innings, scoring seven runs between the two and taking the game 17-11.
Three Warriors had home runs: Rauch, Romero, and Wytulka. Rauch also had five RBIs with Wytulka and M. Smith adding two RBIs each and Romero and Battye had one RBI each.
In Game 2, both teams would go scoreless in the first inning until Mount Marty scored two runs at the top of the second. In the bottom of the second, Cameron Rindone would score the first run for the Warriors, making it a 2-1 game. Waldorf would hold Mount Marty to zero runs through the third and fourth innings while the Warriors scored three more runs by Battye, Isaiah Martin, and Rindone to take a 4-2 lead. Mount Marty would score two runs in the fifth to tie up the game. The Warriors' scored fourteen runs between the fifth and sixth innings. At the bottom of the fifth, Fetters, Seth Mifflin, Rindone, A. Smith, Martin, and M. Smith scored, bringing the score to 10-4. Waldorf would keep the momentum at the bottom of the sixth with runs by Mifflin, Fetters, Wytulka, Martin, Battye, Rauch, M. Smith, and Mifflin. Mount Marty would try to close the gap, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth, but it would not be enough, and the Warriors won 18-6.
Waldorf's Battye would lead the way with batting with a triple and five RBIs. Martin had two doubles and two RBIs. M. Smith had a double and an RBI. Rindone had three RBIs. Fetters had RBIs. A. Smith and Ruach had one RBI each.
Waldorf faces the Midland University Warriors in a conference doubleheader in Fremont, Nebraska on Saturday, March 22 at 1pm and 3:30pm.
