Women's Soccer Suffers First Home Loss

The Culver-Stockton women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 defeat to MidAmerica Nazarene University Saturday afternoon at Ellison Poulton Stadium.

The loss snaps a two-game winning streak and drops the Wildcats' record to 4-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The Pioneers improve to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the Heart.

MNU opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a cross from Cali Schechinger to Sarah Assumma who re-directed the pass into an empty net for a 1-0 lead.

C-SC had an opportunity to get the equalizer in the 26th minute when Savannah Stauffer sent a re-start to the middle of the penalty area. Halle Jennex got a shot off and it appeared it was head for the goal; however, the Pioneer defense was able to save tipoff the line in the nick of time to keep the deficit at 1-0.

The Pioneers added their second goal in the first 10 minutes of the second half, and then added two more goals to pull away and record the victory.

MNU outshot the Wildcats 16-7 overall and held a 9-4 edge on shots on goal. Starting goalkeeper Mackenzie Frizzell allowed four goals and made three saves in 72 minutes of action. Trinity Register played the final 18 minutes and made two saves in the game.

C-SC returns to action this Wednesday, Sept. 28, with a road game at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at the Plaster Sports Complex on the Mount Mercy University campus.
